The Institute of South Asian Studies organised its Second International Conference on South Asia on 8 November 2006.
Mr George Yeo, Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, delivered the keynote address for the conference on "South Asia in the Global Community: Towards Greater Collaboration and Cooperation".
The conference witnessed two plenary sessions discussing South Asia’s political economy as well as South Asia-East Asia links. The papers presented at the conference covered a range of issues, including India’s post-reforms growth experience, South Asia’s look east policy, cooperation between South Asia and the Far East, Islamic fundamentalism in Pakistan, terrorism in Bangladesh and ethnic strife in Sri Lanka.
The conference provided the platform to understand South Asia from a variety of perspectives and to examine avenues for greater cooperation and collaboration throughout Asia and especially among South Asian neighbours.
