The Institute of South Asian Studies organised its inaugural International Conference on South Asia on Friday, 28 January 2005.
Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports, and Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry, delivered the keynote address for the conference on "Engaging South Asia: Challenges and Opportunities".
The conference provided an important platform to update and discuss social, political, economic and security issues facing the South Asian region. It also provided an opportunity to gain deeper insights into the South Asian economies and of the challenges and opportunities of doing business in South Asia.
