Nishchal Nath Pandey
Brief Introduction
Nishchal Nath Pandey is a well known strategic analyst and writer on international affairs from Nepal. He was Executive Director of the Kathmandu based Institute of Foreign Affairs (2004-2006) with both research and administrative responsibilities and worked at the IFA as Deputy Executive Director (2002-2005) and Research and Documentation Officer (1998-2002). Prior to this he was Advisor to the National Planning Commission (NPC) of Nepal and Member of the Taskforce to draft the Ninth Five Year Plan of Nepal (1996-1998). Before joining the NPC, Mr Pandey was in journalism as Sub-Editor of 'The Rising Nepal' and Nepal Television. He contributes regularly to newspapers, journals and news magazines. With M.A.B.L from Tribhuvan University Kathmandu, Mr Pandey has been associated with the Track-II initiative for the purpose of fostering people to people contacts and regional harmony in South Asia for a long time. He is Secretary (Nepal) of the South Asia Foundation, Convener of the South Asia Scholars Forum and Member of the Nepal-China non-governmental cooperation forum. He was member of the organizing committee of the 11th SAARC Summit held in Kathmandu in January 2002, participant of the International Visitor's Program organized by the U.S. State Department, Leader of the Nepali delegation to the South Asia Youth Forum organized by the Japan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, General Secretary, Treasurer and Life Member of the Godavari Alumni Association, and member of several community social service initiatives in Nepal. He is decorated with Gorkha Dakchin Bahu medal, Birendra-Aishwarya service medal and certificate of recognition from the Memphis City Council in Tennessee, USA.
